BOATING 1

BOATING BASICS

Pleasure Craft Operator Certificate (PCOC)

Prerequisite – None

Class Schedule

All operators of motorized pleasure craft are required to show proof of operator competency. All you need to know for the Transport Canada test is presented in an easy to read format that is both informative and entertaining. You can be confident that this study guide meets all the standards established by Transport Canada’s Office of Boating Safety. As an extra benefit, if you pass the test offered by Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons, your Card is recognized by BOTH Transport Canada and The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (USA). You may contact Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons to locate a testing facility in your area.

Unfortunately, we have had to put our classroom courses on hold. In the meantime, the Guelph Power and Sail Squadron will be offering this course online, with experienced instructors, using Zoom. The course will essentially be the virtual version of our classroom course. Besides preparing the student for the PCOC Card exam, this course will also provide the student with a good foundation for Boating 2 and Boating 3.

Weekly classes are scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM EST, beginning on January 6th, 2021. Three weekly sessions have been scheduled to prepare you for the exam.

Enrollment of less than 3 students may result in course cancellation. Reserve early.

Boating 2

Beyond Boating Basics

Recommended Prerequisite – Boating 1 – Pleasure Craft Operator Card

Fall 2021

The PCOC makes sure you have immediate navigation and safety skills, but it’s just the beginning of what you should know when you get on a boat. In the second of our Boating Series, you are introduced to the art of navigation, anchoring, ropes, lines, knots and marine weather – not to mention what to expect when the boat is moving under power. This course also has a number of optional topics that will be taught depending on your interests; these include towing, trailering and a checklist for layup and launch.

Unfortunately, we have had to put our classroom courses on hold. In the meantime, the Guelph Power and Sail Squadron will be offering this course online, with experienced instructors, using Zoom. This not a self study course. The course will essentially be the virtual version of our classroom course.

The date for this course has not yet been set, but the expected start date will likely be in October 2021. Weekly classes will be scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM EST on Wednesday evenings. Seven weekly sessions will be scheduled to prepare you for the optional exam.  To ensure a seat in the virtual classroom, early enrollment is highly recommended. Stay tuned.

Enrollment of less than 3 students may result in course cancellation. Reserve early.
